Tenterden Lions Club Annual Primary Schools’ Choir Competition
On the 14th June 2016 Tenterden Lions Club organised their Annual Primary Schools Choir Concert/Competition in St Mildreds Church and have received many compliments about the event which has encouraged them to start planning for next year’s event.
Lion Peter Webb made an excellent job of MC for the afternoon and six primary schools took part: Benenden, Bethersden, Biddenden, High Halden, Tenterden and Woodchurch.
The age range of the children was 5-11 years old and each choir was required to sing two pieces of contrasting styles selected by their music teacher. Although a couple of the choirs were quite small in number only 9 in one and 10 in another all managed to fill the church with their wonderful singing.
The joint winners this year were John Mayne CEP, Biddenden and Tenterden CE Junior School; each school will hold the trophy for 6 months starting with John Mayne.
Each participating school will receive a cheque for £100, which is donated by the Tenterden Lions Club, to help promote music within the school.
There was a retiring collection which amounted to £165.65 and this will be donated to a local charity more details of which will follow.
